Story to Video AI Generator
Transform text into engaging short videos with AI — complete scripts, visual hooks, and storyboards in one click, ready to edit anywhere.
Opus Clip is an AI-powered video editing tool that converts stories and long-form content into short, editable videos. I worked as a UX Design Contractor on the story-to-video AI editing feature, partnering with product, design, and engineering teams.
I designed end-to-end user flows, interaction patterns, and core editing interfaces that help users understand, review, and adjust AI-generated video results. My work focused on making AI behavior transparent and controllable through clear UI states, structured workflows, and reusable design system components.

5 Interviews with content creators
Competitor research
Workshops with stakeholders
To better understand creators’ goals, workflows, and challenges, we conducted interviews with several content creators. Based on these insights, we synthesized key patterns into representative user personas, which guided our design decisions throughout the project.
Many creators don’t know how to start or structure a good script.
The process feels like a black box, with little transparency or room to adjust.
Editing tools are hard to learn, with too many video tracks and steps.
Users’ Feedback
+ Need to update the prompt: Users regenerated multiple times, but were always dissatisfied with the results.
+ Some users think that the result only requires minor changes to the original text and do not want to change the prompt to make overall changes.
Users’ Feedback
+ Vague instructions: some users found it hard to draft prompt. They prefer to give vague feedbacks to the previous result for update.
Final Solution
Initial Exploration: Add scenes to the script
Iteration: Add a Progress Bar
Users’ Feedback:
+ Lack of process overview: users want to see how many steps remain.
Iteration 1:
+ Add Progress Bar: showing start, current step, and end.
Solution 1
Iteration: Add a Progress Bar
Users’ Feedback:
+ Lack of process overview: users want to see the details of each step
+ User prioritizes seeing the visual results instead of the script text
Iteration 2:
+ Update Layout: 1/3 of the page with more details for each step. The remaining 2/3 displays the process and results visually, keeping users engaged.
Iteration: Add a Progress Bar
Users’ Feedback:
+ The name and status of each step in the progress bar were not visually clear enough.
Iteration 3:
+ Use color and typography to enhance the current step titles and status.
Initial Exploration: Choose a Visual Style
Users’ Feedback:
+ Feel uncertain about the outcome when selecting a visual style.
+ They wish to preview the final result using the chosen template before starting the generation process.
Iteration: Generate a Hook
Iteration:
+ A strong hook is crucial in the first few seconds to capture user attention and address pain points.
+ We decide to use AI assistance in creating an effective hook, ensuring videos start with engaging content.
Visual Design: Templates
+ A strong hook is crucial in the first few seconds to capture user attention and address pain points.
Visual Design: Train Back-End AI
Visual Templates
Collaborated with the Dev Team:
+ Standardize the generation process using templates, letting AI “fill in the blanks.”
+ More controllable results, reducing generation time.
Market Research
Market Research
Initial Exploration: Referencing Video Editors
Users’ Feedback:
+ Feel like a regular video editor, complex to use
+ Information overwhelming
Iteration: Simplify the Editor Interface
+ Template-based editor with three features:
01. Modify layout
02. Replace media (images, videos)
03. Adjust text styles
+ The template-based editor is for easy customization.
Created new components based on the Design system
+ Balancing speed and control, too little control risks irrelevant or low-quality output
+ Too much automation without user input reduces trust and usability
+ Too much manual control undermines the benefit of AI assistance
+ Apply the Regenerating feature to the Hook and Storyboard
+ Create AI features in the Editor
